Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see I use Eastwood's Extreme Diamond Clear on raw metal. It is gas resistant and holds up well. The carb below was painted with this several years ago and still looks good. I use it on brass, cast iron, steel and aluminum to keep it new looking.

Paint. Boss used to rebuild the carbs. when I first started working in his shop. One day I asked why he always painted them. He said he thought the paint helped seal up the porous cast iron, around the bowl gasket, screws, etc. But I'll bet a lot of it was just easier to get the customer happy to pay looking at a shiny new part! Probably part of why he was so successful!
