John deere 71 flex planter need help

I just had a 71 flex planter shipped in from Montana and I have never used a 71 planter. I got it because they are suppost to be simple, I found out it is set up to plant sugar beets. I want to plant sunflowers with it. What all do I need to do to get it ready to plant sunflowers?

Good planters!You will (obviously) need sunflower plates.Check the 'kicker' in the seed box.beets used a 'star'wheel.you will probably need to change it a roller kicker.You will have to change gearing to give you to right population.Above all,buy a book,it will have the right settings,gearing charts,etc. to do a quality job.I have a#70.I still use the book freguently.After all,the success of my crop largly depends upon the planter doing a quality job.Leave nothing to 'chance'.
