International 140 Side dresser Left or right

I have a 1966 International 140 with cultivators and 1pt hitch. I am thinking about getting a side dresser for it because I could really use it when I cultivate. Would you recommend the orginal IH side dresser or a Cole side dresser. I don't care about the orginality just the one that works best. Also I have seen some left mounted side dressers. Wouldn't they be easyer to cultivate with since they are not blocking your view of the plants in the row? Is there a reason there are so many right mounted side dressers, just seems like they would block your view, but then again I have never cultivated with a side dresser.

How much fertilizer are you planning to sidedress?? (Per acre).Single units are limited by the amount the hopper holds, not a factor if small plots, but can be a problem if used with large acreage. The Cole units I believe hold more, the IH double hopper units were used with the #251 rear mounted two row planter, and also could be used for sidedressing. The later #101 IH units with the fiberglass hopper held more, and the optional square hopper more yet.Still popular today.

I will be side dressing alittle over 5 acres. I don"t care to stop and refill. Thats not the problem. Does the right mounted side dresser block your view of the plants in the row?

You will be able to see the row between the hopper frame mount and the tractors foot rest/platform.One reason the hopper bracket "Kicks" up-makes it harder to fill, but helps row view.

we use to use both side dressing tobacco, put bulldog soda in one and fertilizer in the other,me i prefer the ih dist. over cole both work well though, the left side hopper sits further from the row center than the right hand one, the hose has to be at an angle to reach the row, works ok as long as the material is pelleted and not powdery
