Starts easy. Misses for a few seconds then smoothes out. Will not pull up small incline. Boggs down and have to push in clutch for it to rev back up to keep going. Tractor sounds good just has NO power. Any help would be great. I

Disconnect the gas line at the carburetor and check for a full stream of gas from the tank. Use a clean container to catch the gas. If there's just a trickle of gas your gas tank needs cleaning and the gas line blown out using air pressure. If the flow looks ok from the tank remove the tube fitting where your gas line connects and look for a screen plugged. If there's no screen pull the carburetor and soak it in carb cleaner and blow out all the jets.

One other thing to check is the fire to your sparkplugs. Pull off a plug wire when it loses power and see if you have a hot blue spark to your plugs. If it's a weak spark install a new set of points and condenser. See if that improves the power. If it doesn't replace your coil. Hal

this would be an AWESOME question for the FORD N board.. where all the ford N experts hang out.

In any case.. check that you are fireing on all cyls.. an N will run on 2 and roll on flat ground and die out on an incline.

fire order is 1-2-4-3

check plugs for fouling. past that, check for a lean condition..

Common problem as sound said is having the firing order messed up and yep they will run fine with only 2 cylinders firing at the right time but have no power. #1 cylinder is up by the radiator and then they go from there 2,3,4 and if not wired in the 1,2,4,3 firing order you have no power. Also if you have a fouled plug or 2 that will cause it. Most people recommend the auto lite 437 plug gaped at 0.025

I've had that problem with new points on a big 1972 Ford with the 429 engine. The points were Blue Streak. Hal

Sytematically check firing order, timing, and advance, weak spark, clogged air filter, inadequate fuel delivery, improper fuel mixture, sticking valves, lack of compression, etc.
