Sent tach to AgExpress for repair. They could not find anything wrong. No blown fuses, What could cause this problem?

Does the unit not light up at all or just read 0 on all settings?

I have had problems with corroded electrical pmugs at the flywheel speed sending unit and at the large gang connectors at the rear of the engine and cowl area.

Sounds like it is not getting power. Check the fuse and wiring to the tach.
Possibly a bad cab power relay. Do the other gauges , cab blower and such work ?? They are all powered by the cab relay.

Their is a good wiring diagram in the operators manual.

Use a voltmeter or test light to see if you have 12V in the plug that connects to the dig tach.

Your wiring diagram may have the position and color code for the supply and ground wires.

If the repair shop says the dig tach is ok, then it is a pretty good chance that it lacks power or ground on your tractor.
A DVOM can test the plug for both 12V supply and ground.

I put a new oil pressure switch on this evening and tach is working fine.

Thank you very much for all the info.

I was about to mention the pressure switch but you found it. If you want to, you can put a jumper in the plug that plugs into the pressure switch to bypass the switch. Then search around and find where the power wire gets it's power and move it to a switched location instead of steady hot. That way the tach comes on whenever you turn on the ignition switch. It's been so long ago that I did that to my 1086 I've forgotten which wire it is but it's not too hard to do. If I remember right, you do it by the fuse panel. Jim

Thanks guys, I did not realize that the tach was powered from an oil pressure switch on a 1066.
Anyone know why that was done instead of powering it from the ignition switch ??

I ran into that on later 14 series IH combines where the electro hydraulic valves were powered from an engine oil pressure switch so the reel or header drop hydraulic functions would not work if the engine was not running.
