How do you remove a bering lock on 489 New Holland Mower/Con

A bering is bad on the bottom roller. The bering has a lock collar. I beleive it must be turned to get it off but I'm not sure which way. I have tried both but of course it's original. Very close to cutting it off but hate to do that.
 
Put a punch in the hole on the outside of the lock collar and drive it off OPPOSITE the direction the shaft rotates. Doesn't need to go very far. It may be rusted on pretty good. Unless somebody drove it on in the wrong direction. Sometimes they are stuck on pretty tight. Might need lots of penetrating oil. Make sure you have the allen head set screw loose or take it out completely.
 
Forgot to say too, you can use a little heat on the collar too, if it don't want to move. When you put the new collar on it doesn't need to be drove on real hard either, just enough to be firmly seated. If you drive it too hard you can break the edge of the bearing off. Drive it on in the direction of shaft rotation.
 

Don't get too involved with removal, they don't cost that much. Just blow it off with the flame wrench.
 
I just removed a pillow block and bearing on a Sidewinder mower. That's the mower that uses the PTO to turn a pneumatic drive tire which in turn drives the mower blades. I thought the lock collar was part of the bearing, but it is a separate part. It has an Allen set screw and a blind hole about an inch apart. I used PB Blaster a few days ago but the Allen remained stuck. Someone posted awhile ago that a few blows with a flat nose punch next to the set screw would loosen it, but it didn't work for me. So I put pressure on the Allen wrench while using a hammer directly on the collar close to the screw and after a few hits the screw came loose.
 
I forgot to mention that the lock collar is a slip-on piece; the shaft is smooth, no force is necessary.
