any tips on sealing a fuel tank as part of my restoration. do i leave in the sensor or should i remove it, also im going to replace a leaky shut off valvl,upon replacement what product should i seal it with. also what should i clean the inside of the tank with and finally what is the best product for sealing it. thanks for any input.

If you search the board you will find it has been covered many times. You can also try the general tractor talk board as it has been covered there also.

I haven't done it yet, but NAPA sells a fuel tank repair kit. I bought a couple and plan to patch a small hole on my 880.

There are several different kinds out there and I have used most of them with good results over the years. It seems that the key to using any of them successfully is the prep work. The tank must be clean and dry before being treated. All dirt, varnish, oil, rust and loose material must be removed down to solid metal. Which ever sealer you decide on, clean the tank good, follow the directions and you' ll probably be OK.
P.S. Yes you will need to remove all sensors, valves, fuel lines and etc or they will be coated and sealed up.
