Stripped threads on P/S pump

Stupid me stripped the threads on the return port of my Power Steering pump on my '76 Ford 4100. Is there any way to repair this? The fitting seems to be a part of the reservoir, so I don't think I can replace it without replacing the entire thing. Someone please help me.

I'm kind of wondering how it would turn out if I got a long nut and welded it onto the stripped threads and then got a different fitting that would fit in the nut... Thoughts?

Can you separate the reservoir so you can weld on it? You need too keep it clean, and make sure any stripped threads or weld debris doesn't run through the pump. Make a good weld so you don't suck air on the suction side. You should be able to get a suitable fitting at a hydraulic supply shop. If your threads aren't stripped too bad, you might force a fitting into the bad threads and weld it on for good measure. Given the price of a new pump, you might as well get creative. Best of luck.

you may be able to buy aluminum welding rods. i've heard of these rods and you can melt them with a propane torch and just fill in the stripped hole , drill it out and tap it.
