Getting a Farmall Super AV running. I cannot get tractor to freewheel in gear with the clutch pedal down. in...clutch "locked".

I have tied the clutch pedal down, and in 1st gear, pulling it just spins the engine. Even taken the freeplay out of the linkage to make sure I'm getting max clutch action. Can see TO bearing in one piece, everything seems to move on the clutch.

Hard to believe the end of the pilot in the crank is so hard and fast. Could be disk is stuck to flywheel, but WOW is it stuck.

Any other great ideas? Has anyone ever backed out pressure plate screws to free up disk? Does it make any safe sense to lock the engine somehow and pull harder?

Any hints appreciated.

The disc is stuck to the fly wheel or pressure plate surface. You have a cover that you can remove On Farm Alls and spray some brake on the edge of the cluth disc.Block that clutch down 1/2 way when the tractor is idle.

Got it free, check my post.

Thanks, all for the advice, all of it useful.

There are threads in the forum that describe how to kill yourself while freeing the clutch....most involve chaining the tractor to an immovable object, starting it in gear, holding the clutch down, and letting the chain come up short.

If the clutch does not disengage, the tractor will flip and crush you. End of clutch problem for you.

I have used the highest gear Road gear to break a clutch loose, high gear puts more force on the clutch. Same as rollstarting.

i have an h that the clutch will stick over winter if i dont block the pedal down. if you have an open area you can start the tractor in 3rd gear and drive it around with the clutch depressed, hitting the brakes several times. this may pop it loose. hooking an implement like a plow will put a load on it too, if you can access the clutch disc thru the starter hole or lower inspection hole, you may be able to reach up with a screwdriver and pop the disc loose. i did that on an international 254.

If you could pull a heavy load it may free itself, but you may need to split the tractor. Hal

I rapped on it, dragged it, rolled and rocked it. After 1/2 mile of clutching, lurching, towing, nothing worked.

I loosened the (6) tranny bolts enough to give a 1mm gap at the bottom, and towing it 15' with cluch depressed in 3rd did it.

If you don't use the tractor often I would depress the clutch to keep it from sticking. Hal
