I have a newer model 4020 thats leaking from the shaft.
I replaced the shaft and the seals. Oil ring type.
Its still leaking. Im thinking of replacing the bushing thats inside but the JD dealer does not carry it. They told me that I would have to buy the bushing which is around $150 for both and then take it to the machine shop and have them cut like my old ones. I will post a pic when I remove them. All the ones I've seen on the internet dont look the same as the one I have.
Why would they still leak?
New shaft and seals?
Monte

| When you replaced the load shaft seals did you install them with the flat (wide) side out or in? I have worked on a JD 4020 load shaft leak about 4 times over the past three years! Turns out the seals were installed backwards originally. Also another common problem is that folks use a screwdriver to pry out the old seals - scratching up the transmission housing in the process (according to the shop manager at the local JD dealer). When this happens the trans oil will leak out around the seal. Clean the transmission housing, use high temp silicon in a thin layer where the seal seats and then install new seals correctly (sharp edge out). This should fix the leak. I had multiple issues originally (backward seals, worn load shaft and scratched seal housing). I replaced the shaft, did the silicon trick and installed new seals correctly and finally got the leaks stopped. Hope your problem gets solved more quickly than mine did. Best regards! |
