Hi: So it looks like I need to rebuild my fuel pump on my 79 Case 580C with 5000 hours. The pump is a Roosa Master A-148069. I have read a bit about it on line. I think it is the flex ring falling apart. I am not a mechanic but have spent a fair bit of time repairing an old Ford 3500 series backhoe. So my question. What do you recommend try to fix it myself (buy the kit and go for it) or spend the $600 and get someone to do a reseal?? If the flex ring fails is it just a matter of cleaning and replacing the flexring and putting it back on the machine? Or do you need to replace a lot of internal components?? She ran like a top until about 5 hours ago. 1 friend suggested taking the fuel lines off the machine another said just take them off the pump and tease the pump out....your thoughts. I was going to open the timing plate on the pump and put a wrench on the front of the motor somewhere and turn it until the lines match up. Am I missing anything? If I just clean out the top of the fuel pump does it harm the machine to keep it running for another 20 hours till the weather is better???? Thanks for all your thoughts. I have owned this machine for 20 hours of use so I don't know it very well at all.
