Farmall 504, Diesel, Solenoid Wiring

Green horn here with a wiring question regarding proper solenoid wiring on a diesel Farmall 504.

It is important to relate the following: The engine is frozen. I've disconnected all harness leads in an attempt to simplify an attempted restoration. The only elements currently wired are a new starter switch, a new glow plug button, new battery and the original solenoid.

Briefly, the solenoid hosts three terminals. (1) The "S" terminal on the top of the solenoid is connected to the "ignition" terminal of the starter switch.

(2)The positive battery cable is connected to the battery terminal on the solenoid. Also connected to the battery terminal on the solenoid is a lead to the "battery" terminal located on the switch. Lastly, a third wire is connected to the battery terminal on the solenoid and this wire is connected to the glow plug button.

(3) The third terminal located on the bottom of the solenoid is not connected. (Before disconnecting the wiring harness there was no attachment here).

Grounds: The switch is grounded properly. The battery negative harness is grounded properly.

Issue: When activating the ignition on the key switch the solenoid clicks without more. Also, there is a small amount of smoke that appears at the battery terminal lead on the solenoid. Granted, the engine is frozen, however I do not hear the starter engaging.

Question: Is this an acceptable method of wiring this tractor so as to test the starter or turn the engine once I have freed the pistons?

Note: I have looked at the wiring schematic for hours without resolution. Please see the same attached. If it is not attached it is because this site will not let allow it and I will continue to try.

Thank you for any advice you may have
