Hi all,
Just got a 1951 Case SC my father inlaw left to me, I have owned it for 5 years, but it has been seeting in Oklahoma all this time, Finaly got it home to Missouri, and getting ready to start restoring it. any tips on parts and best place to start would be a huge help !! This will be my first tractor restoration !!
Thanks

congrats! ( I have a '49 SC that I tool around with) external_link Company will be a big help to you...They have a lot of parts and are very helpful in figuring out what you need.

The case forum is also a good resource. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on there who have worked on or been around SC's and other similar models before.

does it run?

It was running fine 5 years ago, has not been started since, not even tryed. I just got it home, and need to change all the fluids, and rewire before I attempt to start, I hope it will tho !!

What part of the great state of misery are you in?? Ya I know Missouri. I have done a bunch of work on a 1952 or 3 SC do not remember which one it was. Parts can be hard to come by for some years but not for the other years. If it sat that long I would first fill the cylinders with ATF so as to loosen i up and free the rings which will be sticking

North of KC, been here about a year, what is ATF ? Do you put it in the spark plug holes ? Im new at this so I appreciate the info !!

ATF is automatic transmission fluid. Yep pull one plug at a time fill the cylinder then put the plug back in. Let it sit a couple days that way and then after a couple days pull all the plugs out being careful not to mix up the plug wires and spin it over to clear the cylinders. Yes it will make a bit of a mess but the engine will be a lot better off if you do so. I have been working on these old tractors now for years and any of them I get that has sat long gets the ATF treatment

Just to give you an idea of what it does. I had one tractor we pulled in that had less the 50psi compression on all 4 cylinders and after a few days of ATF in the cylinders the compression went up to a bit over 100psi and then after I got it running the compression was up around 130psi in all of them

Sounds like a plan !! I need both rear tires replace ( dry rot ) any good spots to look for tires ?

As for tires, if it is just dry rot they can last many years. I have one machine here that has tires on it that they are loosing bits and pieces of them and was told over 15 years ago they needed to be replaced but I have yet to do so. I told the guy back then I would replace them when and if they went flat or the tube started showing and as I said that was 15 plus years ago. I have a set of almost new ones sitting in the back of the shed and they have been there for a few years now

These are split and showing the tube, there days are long gone !!

one in either 12.4 or 13.6 wide and those can be hard to come by and new ones cost almost a much as the whole tractor is worth. Ya BTDT to many times and have one or 2 tractor here with problems like that one
