Montgomery Ward Model 33048 Hydrostatic drive.
Hello. I have a 1972 Montgomery ward Hydrostatic drive tractor that seems to be needing fluid. (It goes slower going one way on the hill than the other) Anybody know how to check the fluid level and how to bleed the system.

Your fill plug is behind the right rear wheel. It's a 3/4 pipe plug. That's the only place where you can see the fluid level. There'a a filter there too and it probably needs to be changed. Make sure the free wheeling lever beneath the seat is in the down position. Hal
PS: My 33048 is 1971 model.

I would loosen the lug bolts before raising the wheel off the ground. You will need a 1/2" ratchet, short extension and 5/8 socket. The area behind that wheel is usually gritting and dirty I would use a garden hose and clean it very good before removing that 3/4 pipe plug. You don't want any of that grit to get into the
oil in the hydrostatic drive. Hal
PS: I used a PH16 Fram filter too.

I came across this post an saw your pictures. I have a tractor that looks identical to this. Mine is a hydrostatic 16. Mine isn't close to looking that nice but it runs great. Can you tell me how to identify the year?
