whats the best way

Im sure some of you guys have been through this both ways! Paint wheels then install tires then touch up wheels, or prime wheels then install tires, mask tires then paint wheels. Which is easiest and works the best. thanks for any help!

I prefer the paint and then tire. The shop I take mine to I make it very clear I don't expect chips/scratches. I understand that sometimes thing slip and crap happens, but so far I have had good luck with them. I also tell them that it is no rush so they don't feel like they need to rush the job and thus they can take more time and not scratch them. I had one set with a few little marks at the very edge of the rim that I took a small brush to and touched up. You would never be able to tell at this point.

You can do whatever you feel most comfortable. We like masking the tires. Not worth taking the risk of the tire shop messing up a nice paint job. When working with big tractor tires you never know what happens.

Another suggestion, which I did on my last restoration, is to have the rims powder coated. There are more and more people out there doing this and you can't hardly beat the price considering the durability.
