Soda Blaster

Anyone ever use one of these. I was thinking about how it would work on the chassis of a tractor. I know you can't sand blast it and wire wheeling it is a pain in the a$$ you can't get every nook and crany. Looks like a good idea.

soda blasting works good for removing paint. its not aggressive enough to remove heavy rust and scale. also, it doesnt leave grit everywhere and cleans up with just plain water. another upside to soda blasting, it doesnt warp sheet metal like sand media does.

For several years I have sand blasted cast parts, tried to orbital sand sheet metal (as much as possible), and used the soda blast on delicate parts or visible un painted parts such as carb. bodies or aluminum articles

TJ,

I'd use a needle scaler on the castings. (assuming you have a air compressor)
Save the soda blaster for the tin.

Best regards,
Ray

Never thought about a needle scaler, thanks Ray. I don't have a soda blaster, any recomendations

tim, here is another option for you, not as spendy as dropping for a soda blaster. i am finishing up a farmall m, used 3m stripping wheels to take the paint off, along with an assortment of wire brushed for my air grinders. some of the wire brushes are resin encapsulated, so the wires stay straight and cut quick. snap on or matco sells them. the 3m stripper wheels look like a waffle material. they cut real good. i used one bag, maybe 10 or so to strip the m, about 30 dollars a bag. heres some pics.
