Stuck Bolts and Heating Techniques

I have 2 stuck wheel weight bolts and 1 stuck rim clamp bolt on the rear rims of my Farmall M. None of them are threaded, just rust locked. I drilled holes in each one on the edge so that penetrating oil could get to the seam, but I need to heat them too.

When heating something like this, do you heat the cast wheel to expand it off the bolt, or try to heat the bolt and let it cool down and hope it broke a little free?

First mistake was not drilling the hole exactly in the center. It is almost impossible to get a bolt out with an easyout unless it is in the center. You could have drilled it completely out also if it was centered, but I would heat the bolt cherry red and let it cool. If you have the hole drilled all the way through, just blow it out with a cutting torch. You can burn the bolt and it will not hurt the cast unless you stay on it too long. I have done hundreds of them this way.

Doing hundreds of them sure would be a waste of heat. Pound it out with a sledge. A cast center was not made with cookie dough and baked. Can't say I have done hundreds but sure have done several Olivers and a sledge will have them on the ground while you are after heat.

We are talking about the bolts that go thru the cast center that holds the rim in place with a rim clamp and a nut. Not a threaded screwed in bolt.

You sure can, drill a hole through the center of the bolt, take the torch and cut it out, clean up the threads with a tap. did 2- 5/8 bolts today on a case dozer.

if its stuck in good with the head stripped off the bolt i have always just started with a small drill bit and work your way bigger and bigger until that bolt will eventually fall apart. ive used this method hundreds of times and it is proven to work just make sure your drilling in the center of the bolt

Got em out tonight. Had to blow off the head and about an inch of the bolt inside the hole before it would move. 10 pound sledge and using a 3/4 bolt as a punch. They were stuck!

Thanks
