1954 JD 60 - Power Block for pulling?

I have a 1954 JD 60 that I pull casually in the 6000 & 7000lb class on dirt track. I have acquired an appropriate Power Block that needs a bunch of work. The block casting looks fine but the pistons are stuck in pretty badly rusted sleeves. I have been soaking the piston tops in PB Blaster and have filled the cyclinder cavity with diesel fuel and fired the fuel to try to get the pistons loose. No luck yet. Haven't tried to put it into a hydraulic press yet. Trying to get the pistons out w/o disturbing the sleeves.

Anyone who has been down this road with a power block I would appreciate suggestions on how to get the pistons out.

Secondly, I would like to hear from anyone who has added a Power Block to a 60 as to what you gained by adding it. Was it worth all the expense and effort.

My current sstock 60 does quite well competitively but I have had trouble keeping the front down. I think I now know how to solve that problem but there are tracks where it pulls better in second gear than in the creeper low gear. In second gear I run out of HP on hard dirt tracks. On loose tracks I can pull in 2nd w/o running out of power. I would like to have enough HP to pull in 2nd gear under all track conditions. In first gear I always run out of traction.

Suggestions would be really appreciated.

Try cleaning out all of the PB blaster and fuel and dump some amonia on top of the pistions. had the same problem with a engine stuck tryed the blaster for 2 weeks with no luck, did the amonia for a day and it came loose hope this helps.

Jake, doesn"t amonia attack aluminum? I know fertilizer will kill an aluminum deck lawn mower. If you plan on using different pistons don"t worry about it, but someone else needs to jump on this and either call me crazy or advise you not to use amonia...
