403 in a 5 star

Thinking about a 5 star build as I can run bigger tires and more rpms, is it as straight forward to put a 403 base engine in a 5 star as it is a U? Thanks

Look on outlaw antique pulling. Jeff Gravert has a dozen or more big MM engines and that many tractors or more for sale. Think he is in Iowa. Sure it will fit. But don't pay any attention to anything I say. I've pulled since Thursday down here at Tunica Ms. And haven't gotten close to winning. Not my D17's fault. Need to hire a driver.

I saw that he had a bunch of sweet stuff for sale.
I have bought lots from Jeff but I already have the tractor and engine, and all parts,I was planning on putting it in a u .
Just thinking of 5 star for bigger tires aloud and higher rpms. I have read maybe the back of the crank needs work, wondering how big of a deal that is

You are going to take the pto out, aren't you. Think you are right about crank needing bored out. Should be able to do it with a magnetic drill.

Yep. Everything will be out and off that
I dont need. I know I have read the
back of the crank needs work but I
Didnt realize all it needed was a hole drilled
. I will have original engine in shop next to
403 so I know what has to happen. Probably
Just get a 31 or whatever ford rat rod radiator
As well, and Im sure top water manifold situation
Will be screwy, but those are easy things to consider
. Is a reverse direct gear real fast ? Probably
Will be losing the torque amplifier

I would lose the whole front end. Make a wide front end from a combine steering axle narrowed up. Bolt it on solid. To a new 1/4 cold roll frame. Making it long enough to clip your front weights to. 11 ft from your back axle.
