speed for pulling

where can I find a device that shows accurate speed for pulling, what is available ??? I see some with a wheel. thank you for any info.

I just use a bike wheel. (NO tire) and a bike speedo from Walmart. Works perfect on my 435. I try to run .2 under limit. Some sleds will give you .2 . Find out. Then can run a little faster. If you use to big a wheel use two magnets
I also use a bigger magnet. Than comes with the speedo. Only problem is the size of read out. Need it close. So you will have to splice the wire. I used old planter monitor wire.

Keep in mind you will have to compare what you have to the sled at every pull. Just a small difference in the radar sensor angle will generate slightly different readings. Also: as Vic said, some may set the alarm more or less generous. If you pull with the same sled you should be consistent. May vary some sled to sled with different promoter.

I have a 24 inch bike wheel/tire on one of mine. My complaint with it at first, the tenths is hard to read as it's small on the Schwinn readout. Here's how I fixed that, I placed TEN magnets, evenly spaced around the rim, which makes it more accurate and easier to read. For example, when it reads 55 now, it's 5.5 MPH. 40 is 4.0, 62 is 6.2, etc. The ten magnets just make it read ten time faster, just put a decimal point between the first two numbers. A LOT easier to read now..

I had a speedometer app on my old phone. Was not as detailed as sled radar. Yes, it worked from GPS technology. Other apps may be more detailed than what I had.

i don't think it matters that much. i spend my time in the short of the pull watching my tires , we don't allow a locked rear . we also have 2 warning horns .

Inside or out? Outside GPS is the best. Either phone or stand alone hand held works fine.

Inside you need something that measures off the ground as others have mentioned.

Or start lobbying the pulling group for a readout at the end of the track.

One of our well heeled building contractor pullers bought a read-out himself a few years ago and brings it to some pulls. Last year the fellow who owns the sled got one and brings it to all of the pulls that he does.

(quoted from post at 13:32:09 04/27/18) two horns is the same as no limit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

535353M That is only your opinion. You are allowed only one exclamation mark when emphasizing an opinion. You are now denied exclamation mark use for you next 14 strong opinions!

Unless you waste them back at 1/2 track. No need blowing horn till you get to 1/2 track flag. In 4mph class I just go 3mph or so past flag. Keepimg accelerating up to 3.8 then 50 ft before where everybody else have got. I give it all its got. If i speed with two honks then I'm alright.

Where I've pulled the horn is allowed up to 75 feet, or maybe 100 feet for faster classes . After that distance, NO horn is allowed at all, or it's automatic DQ. Why I like the ten magnet bike speedometer..

Last season it was no horn allowed after usually 100 feet, although I was often the only one or maybe one of two to make the horn blow. Usually it took a good 10 seconds for it to stop. "If you don't make the horn blow you ain't tryin."

Our first pull of the season is coming up. 13MPH limit and a soft track. I am bringing my Ford 9000 with bad clutch that I never took out last year. At 13 MPH I won't be relying on my clutch.
