True farm stock tractor pull

Looking for a place to to pull a straight out of the field farm tractor. Prefer the Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio area. It?s hard to find a true farm stock class anymore as most ?farm stock? tractors are more like hot farm or what not. Just looking for somewhere to take a farm tractor and have some fun with other tractors straight off the farm. Looking for 10,000lb and up classes. Thanks in advance for the responses.

I think it is the nature of pullers to keep on tweaking things until tractors could not be run over 300 ft. That said...did pull in one years ago that held No 1 and 2 place tractors and put on dyno when class was over. At full rated RPM's tractor had to be within 10% of factory rated power.

Did very well that daY WITH MY '53 SM. No 1 at 5000 and No 2 at 5500. About 12 - 13 tractors in each class.....About half of 5000 class added wt. for 5500 class

Yep i know it?s a long shot but there has to be somewhere out there with some true farm stock classes. We have some hotter tractors ourselves but just want to play with some out of the field farm tractors and have some fun.

Many used to use the dyno, but what about better enhanced ignitions, bigger tires, weight brackets, pulling hitches,on and on, can't see M&W kit, shaved heads, recut cams, most older tractors stock don't make near what factory hp is,so the mods I mention are all pluses hidden in stock form.I have been told "MY TRACTOR IS ALL ORGINAL STOCK,EXCEPT THIS AND THAT". Just saying.

My SM is a 53........65 years old !!!!!! What are the odds of this tractor NOT being overhauled with new and better parts than original. Point being....dyno HP cannot be more than 10% over factory rating when new !

John

point being that yours might be more than 20 hp over someone elses,so still not apples to apples, competition is not standard one fits all, enhanced is hard to beat, most that pull ARE ENHANCED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PERIOD,not many stock pullers anywhere. Many many dealers installed kits, which back in the day were considered stock. you didn't mention if any tractors were kicked out. Any rule made has some people figuring out how to beat that said rule, speed limits mean very little, tech means very little honesty and pride nowdays is hard to find also.Accepting that life is what it is is more important than most other stuff in life, includeing thinking thar stock is stock,we are not at Bowling Green in the CONCOURSE CLASS.

I repeat......!st and 2nd place were held under careful watch.....!st hooked up to dyno and checked and WON if not over10% over factory rating. Do you really expect 65 year old tractors to never have been overhauled ???? GIVE ME A BREAK !!!!!

My SM was overhauled in 1992.....and I use Summer when baling hay. It is a working tractor and NOT a garage queen puller.

John

I really think your chances of finding a "true" stock tractor pull are as likely as finding an "honest" politician! There is no such thing. Find yourself or have a 2-3 MPH speed, no cut tire class have fun and quit worrying about it. DW

Unless I misunderstood the rules, all tractors at a NATPA meet have to have wheelie bars. That is why I stopped pulling at their meets. I pull Div. 1 only and will not go the expense of installing wheelie bars. You pull a tractor out of the fence row or shelter belt, you can't pull at their meets. We have one pulling club in Kansas that sticks to the Natpa rules to the letter. That stops the locals from coming to pull for nothing more than bragging rights. Then they wonder why they had a poor turnout.

Never heard 10% over on HP. In this area they put a Electronic tach on tractor and can't turn over 10% of factory Engine RPM.

if you can't afford,(to stubborn to do it) wheely bars for safety, you can't afford gas, pulling unit, entry fees, food or fun, grow up.

Our club does not require wheely bars. We can be 10% over in power, 1% over in pull class weight, largest tire 18.4. It has nothing to do with affording mods it's all about getting together and enjoying the friendships and competition. Some of the tractors look better than showroom others are directly off the farmyard. Win or lose it's fun just being there.

The most equalizing factor is the speed limit.
So if you want to play with the closest thing to stock, look into 3mph classes with tire size limits and no cut tires.
That's what I pull my SM in. And any class it belongs in it wont run out of power in 1st gear.

That's about as stock as you can expect, so long as the rules are enforced.

There used to be a straight out of the field, driven to the fairgrounds, 4440 that cleaned house at one of the pulls every year. The local Deere dealer who I did business with told me that the dairy farmer owner had the tractor in for service when he bought it used a few years earlier. The dealer told me that the 4440 spun their Dyno right up to the max 225 HP very quickly. A regular poster here who is in the Midwest, once posted that when he was younger that they would put a different pump and turbo on a 4440 for going to a couple nearby pulls. These are the stock tractors that you are pulling against. I used to promote speed limits and after a now all the pulls have them. The powerful tractors can lug down much better, and at the lower speeds still pull better unless the track is soft.

535353M.......Ya you're right ! My bad ! Never in 30 yrs of pulling have I heard all tractors in a class should all have the same HP. But I guess anyone is allowed their own facts and truth in todays world.

I'm Sorry I tried to challenge your version of facts and truth..

John

you are not able to absorb facts, even if tractors in a class were stock,hp would be different, one turn on fuel screw, worn rings, loose pistons, amount shaved on head to bring up to spec when over hauled, you admit to an overhaul John,so most likely you have more power than the other guy, compete, beat the bigger power, then feel good, but stop expecting to find many "STOCK" pullers. It's not an opinion on facts,it is willingness to accept. And pretend farmer,- speed limits means just that, speed, not winning ability,80 - 90 % of the time bigger power will still win slow pulls. Is a hotter coil considered stock? To many it is. Is drilling out the main jet stock, removing cast wheels, turning up governer, changing out oil bath air cleaner? would it not be the most fun to be in a dynoed class and win over the higher powered tractors, that is my goal, power is easy to obtain, hooking it to the track is an art form.A lot of guys and gals want a level, even playing field, beati'n up on the Church Ladiez,go find some competition that is fun to beat, not equals. My tractors have acid rain paint for the most part, many I compete with have more in the paint job and weight brackets that I have in the whole thing.Every hog finds an acorn once in awhile. If ya can't run with the big dogs,- stay on the porch!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now go have fun doin what ever level you choose, but go have fun.

Too much variations on "stock". For instance: a U Moline was about 44hp by the Nebraska test. M&W and Moline both listed the "big bore" or "power block " overbore kit to use later model 336 cylinder sections. That can go over twice original horsepower. It is using parts specified for use on a U so why would it not be considered "stock "? Just one example that I am familiar with. Again: what is stock? Not likely to find many tractors that have not been worked on at some point.

When speed limited to say 3.5 mph it's not the horsepower that wins it is all about traction. My 70 in 7500 lb. class always ends the run with front wheels in the air and engine slightly above idling.

The prolem NATPA is to many rules that you can go any where else and pull and not have all of these rules.

(quoted from post at 19:22:38 04/16/18) look into natpa division 1

Yes and nobody bothers to pull in that division, what is there 2 or 3 tractors total Pulling div 1?

Used to have one at the Mt Gilead Ohio fair..

Not "all" of them were purely original but close enough..!

Was great to see those old relics pull with all they had and there were many that actually did come in straight off the farm...

I think they have a similar one at what they call "Tractor Days" or something like that..

Wanna see something exciting, watch them pull hooked to a "DoubleTree"...(watch out for the Olivers, they are way too light in the front and really "stand tall"..!!

I have seen the clubs put the tractors on a m&w dyno . all that did was no one came back to that pull . reduce the mph to 3 is what my club did . it works for the stock tractors but not on power tracks.

We pull 3 MPH in all farm stock classes but use the tach if we have a tractor that sounds like its turning to many RPMs.
