Trailer tires

I changed goosenecks recently, but the replacement trailer has (4)10 ply truck tires instead of (4)10 ply trailer tires. I pull 10-12,000 pounds
worth of tractors to pulls & wondered which tire is best. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

There are several articles on the subject. Google it and decide for your self. One thing I can say from personal experience, DONT BUY CHEAP TRAILER TIRES! It?s well worth the extra money not to have to change a tire on a busy interstate or at all for that matter.

I have a tandem dual gooseneck that I have run heavy most of the ten years that I have had it. The tires were supposed to be an optional heavy one, but when I needed two due to sidewall breakdown, the salesman at GCR showed me the huge difference between them and the ones that I should be running.

For years I got by putting my old tires from my pickup on my trailer. 10 ply lr E. But after having tire trouble I have gone to 14 ply trailer tires. No trouble yet but they are reaching that 5 year milestone.

Would you run trailer tires on your pickup? I don't think so so why would you want to use the things on a trailer? I run Firestone Trans Force 10 plies on mine and that took care of failures.

The biggest reason that tires fail is water and heat. The tires get small cracks it them from age(sun) and moisture seeps in and starts rusting the steel belts in the tire. The tires heat up and the water turns to steam and blows the tread off. I prefer bias ply tires on trailers, radials flex a lot, they are made that way. My trailer tires are way too old, they were put on when Ford and Firestone were having so much trouble. If you wear tires out buy good radial trailer tires, if you are like me and they just rote off with time, buy bias.

I have tried trailer tires a couple of times, and had terrible luck with them. I have had better luck with half worn out truck tires. I have more blowouts with trailer tires than truck tires. I have truck tires on all of my trailers.
