310 turbo diesel in a 88

What all needs done to install this engine in tractor? Use gas engine backing plate, clutch/flywheel and starter? I've heard steering shaft will need work to clear oil cooler? Will radiator and water pump clear without clearance issues? Is single disk cast flywheel/button clutch be good enough or should I go to double disk clutch?

Did this last winter but in Super 88. May have read post from a month or 2 ago. Hardest part was routing steering shaft outside of frame or tub to clear cast in oil cooler. If someone did it differently I would love to see how. I tried to post pics before but must have done something dumb and couldn't do it. Will try again. Non-Super 88 may not work the way I did mine because I fabricated and mounted a bracket to the cultivator pad towards front of tub. Used S88 radiator in original position but had to fab adaptors for hoses. Bottom was just a reducer but top was a sharp elbow. For clutch I used ceramic button with HD pressure plate. Was told good chance stock clutch will likely slip. No need for double disc unless you are going real exotic but then you will have other problems! I used a 88 diesel flywheel. Guessing that is heavier than gas flywheel. Look for pics shortly.

Nice pics jersey thanks for posting. I think you will need flywheel off 88 as mentioned and also a 88 diesel bellhousing and backing plate. An 88 gas bellhousing won't work the starter hole will not line up with the diesel backing plate.

88 diesel flywheel and rear engine plate were both
used? My email is in this post, if u would send me
your phone number, if u don't care I may give you a
call this weekend, thanks

I THINK gas backing plate would probably bolt up but need diesel flywheel which means diesel backing plate and diesel bellhousing.
I think the crux is that you need diesel flywheel because it is heavier but that is just a guess on my part. Perhaps someone here with more knowledge than I could confirm this. I got lucky as I got all those diesel parts, including starter, as a package deal. I didn't see your email. Would be happy to discuss.

When I ran a 310 I used a flywheel from a 1655 that would accept a 12" clutch and used a super 88 bellhousing, I used diesel engine backing plate with the super 88 bellhousing and super 88 starter. I did not use an oil cooler engine so the steering worked in the factory location. I used the factory radiator with universal hoses.
