John Deere 5020 puller questions.

What is the horsepower potential of a 5020 using stock bore & stroke, & just givin it more fuel & turbo? How much of an advantage is an inline pump over a rotary pump? What size turbo should be used?

If you change your pistons I might be interested in them for my D17. I know very little about what you need to do to your tractor for your rules. But I would think you would need at least a 6030 8650 motor. They will have a inline pump. Which will need bigger plungers. Your 5020 oiling system is weak. You will need your head ported and flowed. New cam. All turbos are not equal. Your competitors will have the expensive one! I just found a aftermarket head for my allis. $10000. Don't think I'm that serious. He has one for a 619 JD also.Above all have fun! Vic

I dyno’d a 466 in one of my pullers with conservative 10mm A-pump, the shear bolts broke on the dyno at 475 and it wasn’t done pulling yet. And this was at 1000 rpm PTO speed. This was with a cam, decent fuel system and a good turbo, no real head work done to it.

I would say 400-500 should be child’s play, after that you have to tune it better. If it were mine I’d want to start with a late 619 or a 10.1 Liter.

I would at least go with 531 out of 6030 or a 619. Inline pump versus rotary pump is no comparison, for turbos you may look into holset hx 50,55,or 60 for box turbo or borg warner s400. What weight class do you plan to run?
