Need input from John Deere 5020 pullers

Thinking building a 5020 to pull in 12,000 lb farm class, with an 8-10 mph speed limit. What all needs to be done to a 5020 to be competitive? Not new to the pulling world, new to a 5020. Been pulling a 4010 in 8-10,000 lb classes. Any input would be helpful.

They are a heavy tractor mine weighs 11500 bare, that is with 10 bolt hubs, no rock shaft, PTO and anything else you can take off. I have a turbo on mine also. I have plans of making it 680 cubes,it has the original 531 in it now.

There may be a reason that you see so few of them and 6030s at pulls. Could have to do with HEAVY. Twice as heavy and 2/3 the cubes of most Gs that are pulling.

This is a field farm class, with turbo's & P pumps or what ever you want to run, they occasionally have open classes. I plan to put the fuel to it with a good turbo. Any ideas would be appreciated. 5020 would have the cubes. Heard some in this class are about 400-500 hp.

First I would be looking for a 619 engine. Another option is a 531 with a p-pump, then that block can be bored out for a 619 sleeve. Strokes are the same on 531 and 619. To get to 680 offset grind the crank ? inch and use JD small block rods, will need custom pistons for that set up. You will also want to get a steel cam, the nose of the stock ones like to snap. Leave a email if you want more details.
