Oliver 310 Diesel- Bored and Stroked Possibility?

Has anyone built a large cube Oliver 310 diesel? I am talking of the 1750, 1755, 1855 engine. How big can they safely be bored and/or stroked? This would be for 3000 RPM class. Would they hold up with a turbo?

I'm sure you could bore and stroke a 310 and get a little more power out of it but what weight class are you thinking of running in. Around here there are some international tractors in the 3000 rpm class running 640 cu in. these tractors put out around 1000 hp. A 310 just does not have enough room to make that much cu in. . Also a 310 was known for chucking rods when they were stock. You could get billet rods but they are about $3600 for a set. A billet crankshaft will run you around $10,000. Also they had pencil injectors that just will not flow enough fuel. You can machine the head to accept bigger injectors but this costs more money. Also in order to make any real power, you will need an inline injection pump. I'm sure you could mount one on a 310 but again more money. The pump itself will set you back around $4,000 Save yourself a lot of money and build something else.

Very well said, Jim. Have a friend with the Perkins 372 in an Oliver 1850 he pulls with, does OK in lower speed limit classes, but the faster classes with the larger 466 plus cube motors leave him well short..
