RD450 vs RD501 block

What are the differences in a RD 450 block vs RD 501? I heard something about cam location and 450 is sleeved where 501 is not. Are they the same height? Do they use the same oil pan (making the crankcase width the same at the pan rails)? Also, are the cylinder head the same? And lastly, are the camshafts the same profile?

Thanks,
Brian

sounds like a tune up in progress hurry up meagan said only 61 days before west alton 1st pull good luck terry sorry dont know sh t about them multiple cylinder red things some guys call tractors hope to b see ya at flickerwood

Terry,

HAHA! This project is for next winter....I got a RD450 that runs out of an old truck I scrapped out but just trying to see if I really need to hunt down a 501.

I am ready for a West Alton pull....that is hands down the best group of pullers and the most relaxing, enjoyable pull to go to. All these people on here say how their stuff gets messed with and other crap....heck I even heard of guys at West Alton helping there competition fix their tractors by loaning them parts (even if they drive the forbidden color)!

I hear Meagan about 2 months to go...I got another M I am building for a friend to pull. About got short block together. Chassis is pretty much done. Not real big, but big enough for her to pass up LCB!!

I should be at Flickerwood on the Saturday session.

See you then, Brian

They are not the same, the camshaft is in a slightly different location so the timing gears are different. The 372,406 & 450 are all the same block with sleeves, they each have a different stroke length. The 501 does not run sleeves and has a larger bore than the other 3 versions, cam is relocated and it has another 1/4" stroke over the 450.The oilpan, head, and other misc.parts are interchangeable.

No, it's the crank that is about 1/4" lower in the block. On the rear of the block, the clutch housing bolt holes are lower also to keep trans shaft in line with crank. Mike
