Wheel horse D 160 automatic

I have a chance to buy a wheel horse D 160 automatic. Would like to do some tractor pulling with my son. Right now we pull with a 1212 power king on concrete.Does any one have any info on how well these beefy tractors handle in dirt pulling? Thanks
 
I am a long way from a garden tractor
puller. But you have to start with a cub
cadet. If you want to win. They are gear
drive. No belts. Also Chuck Vogel at
Effingham. Il. Puts a Ford ring and
pinion in them. (Lots of ratios
available) then a 4 speed trans with a
splitter in front. Longer frame etc.

Thanks Vic, this wheel horse is a hydro. I seen mostly hyros at the pulls for dirt pulling.They seem to do quiet well. I see a lot of them on the take off just feather the the hydro. Once they feel those rear tires start to grip. Full forward with the hydro. Its a beautiful thing. :lol: thanks again !

Everybody runs gear drive Cub Cadets, even if they have green sheet metal and yellow wheels.

Hydros have pumping losses in pump and motor both, builds lots of heat in the oil, wastes HP. A gear drive
with proper gearing and weighting will out pull a hydro every time.

First garden tractor pull I ever went to the JD 140 Hydros were just out for a few weeks. Local lawn care
guy used the pull to promote his business. But mostly to stoke his ego. He organized pull, made the
rules, tractor weight was less driver. So all these 70 to 90 pound kids pulling with Cub Cadets, mower
decks covered in clippings from mowing that morning had to compete against him with his new tractor with
his 300 pound butt in the seat! A couple CC's almost beat him in spite of his uncompetitive rules. Think it
was a 200 ft track on concrete.
