John Deere 620 increase hp

Look to increase the horsepower on my JD620 to be a little more competitive in pulling. It pulls 6500 and 7500 using 13.6.-38 tires and all ways spins out in 1 st gear. Runs out of power in 2nd gear . Should I increase the tire size what can I do the the motor to help it I believe it is stock. Any suggestions?

extreme tractor . com will have all the parts to make more hp . just put 15.5x38 tires on it and pull in low gear will increase your chances of winning .

The 620 JD is a good tractor but is very limited in power up grades, bolt on a set of 18,4 38s and pull in low gear. You will not do as well as the others but hey thats the way it is with a 620 ....

How much do you want to pay ? You can "blueprint" the engine up to higher specs and have more power without the engine being foul tempered or unreliable.
Custom 45 over pistons with 9:1 compression and use premium gas. Send the cam and followers to a grinder and tell them what you want to do, the pistons specs and fuel octane.
Take the head to an engine shop that knows how to perform a three angle valve job.
Match the head ports to a set of LP manifolds.
Blend the rough edges out of the intake and exhaust ports.
Install valve springs from a 830.
Replace the mesh innards inside the air cleaner with a dry air filter element.
Should take her from 48HP to maybe 60 something HP.
As previously stated, the tractor is under tired and can't win no matter how many HP.

Deeres as a whole take more money to make them competitive. Many take a boatload more. Save your money, and have more fun. Get an Oliver, or an AC, or a Minnie Moe, or a Farmall or a Ford, or an MH, or a Case, or a Friday or CockShut or a Graham Bradley or a Silver King or an Essesx Tri-directional................

I agree with the others. You could overhaul it, and depending on your budget get 55hp on up to who knows how high. Youll be without your tractor a while and it'll be expensive but you'll learn all about how the thing works. Or, there's a bone stock 630 near me that does well pulling low gear with either 16.9 or 18.4 tires. He doesn't win every pull as some tracks just aren't good for creeper gear, but he is very competitive and wins some. We pull 8000 - 9500 antique and farmstock. Usually 15 or more in a class. Knowing your tractor and learning to read the track and how to weight are fun skills to learn, and as important as more horsepower.

I went through the first option I mentioned with my G years back. Now I pull a mostly stock 720. If I were you, I'd check the compression, make sure everything is in tip top shape, and find a nice road worn set of 16.9s.
