looking for options on a stock 221 block. is there a better head that will bolt up to stock block, what can block be bored to and what piston works with that, what can you put in for a replacement crank. are there better automotive valves that would work in stock head. just looking for ideas. thanks

I am not a "red" guru: but: I hear a lot about using a 301 combine engine in those. I expect one of those can be found for a lot less money than all that machine shop work.

You will need all the 301 parts. Plus carb. A truck head has the valves angled. It is better. Might as well use the 301.

How much horse are you wanting? I can get you from 50 to 110 without much trouble. It is best to start with a 301 engine out of a 715 combine, even if you go no further. That would get you to 75hp at a 460's stock rpm.
