Hi guys im starting to gather up parts for a new project. I have a rd 450 motor at the shop and 806 frame rails also have some extra farmall 560 hood pieces. A guy I know has a farmall 400 rear end that I can get. I've been told that the rear end is the same as a 560 rear end. My question is has any body used a 400 rear end for this and is the rear end the same as a 560 thanks

it's got different ratios and different bearings but overall the same .I'm not an expert on this subject .

The 400 rear has a faster ring and pinion gear set than the 560 rear. Mennonite 560 owners like the 400 ring and pinion in there 560 to speed them up for road travel, can get 35 MPH plus with no trouble.

We have an IH 560 pulling tractor that we installed a 400 ring and pinion into. It raised the ground speed in 3rd gear to what the original 4th gear was, approximately, and allowed us to go a faster speed we were looking for in 4th gear now. The ring gear bolts directly onto the original carrier also, making it an easy install.

Similar but very different. There are Hydraulics in the 560 rear end and not in the 400/450. If you are pulling and don't care with some modifications it should work.
