What Gear to use on a Ford 5000??

Howdy Guys,

What gear do you guys use for pulling with a Ford 5000 diesel 8-speed transmission.

Depends on a few factors. First which motor? early or late? second how many HP? third whether track is soft or hard. fourth, what is speed limit?

Don't forget, what weight classes. My buddy's 7000 with a good running 268 is usually in 6th gear and sometimes in 7th on loose tracks in the light class. Really gives the big NA 4010 guys a hard time.
