Building a John Deere A

I bought a 47' A with a powerblock that is stuck that i'm wanting to build into a puller. Want to go 6.125 by 9. Where's a good place to send the crank? Opinion on where to send it? I want to do the 4020 rods welded to A rods to try to save some money. I have a friend with a big A and he recommended me to talk to Josh Blackburn, but i'm not sure how to contact him.

We have A blocks in stock now that you can go as big as 7 inches if your looking for something bigger. Also have billet cranks of different sizes up to 10 inch. Call Brian at 605-359-2043.

Building a puller is an interesting project and an A with a 9" stroke is going to be competitive with other tractors. If there is some way to save up and use aftermarket machined rods, it will be worth the wait. The picture is an A with a 9" stroke and a machined rod. Even the "thin" machined rod has minimal clearance under the cam after the cam has about 1/2 of its thickness removed. Using a heavier tractor rod will take quite a bit of work on the rod itself. 4010 or Waukesha rods are thick and even though clocked at approx. a 45 deg angle, its going to be a lot of blending. Good luck with your tractor.
