Stromberg carbs

any stromberg carb experts on here that live in new England that can help me out ? I have slight miss and don't believe
its a ignition problem. Let me know please - thanks

Many things can cause a miss and seldom the carburetor unless it is not adjusted properly. Do you have a steady miss or erratic. Miss at idle, low rpm, high rpm, under load, no load, etc...I would be hesitant to blame the carburetor without going through everything electrical first. Timing can cause a miss, incorrectly gapped points, plugs, wires etc. My first year auto mechanic teacher told the class that 80% of rough run problems are electrical: not fuel. My experience the past 40 years is he was right.

Your 100 % correct - had the msd 7 ignition sent out and rebuilt , new msd wires , new cap and rotor , checked all the wiring and everything , started doing it mid year of this year , make one pass no problem , next pass when it starts getting loaded and it either start to sound like 7 cylinders or once in a while and seams to clear right up and run good and your out the door - only thing i haven't replaced was the msd coil ? just bought one one but our last pull was last weekend , the old coil was from 2012 and it was mounted very close to the block , 1/8" away , maybe the coil gets to hot ? well i mounted the new one further from the block .

I am no expert on electronic ignition: however: a local engine builder told me that there is a difference in coils and the coil must be "matched" to the rest of the system. I have also heard of the "trigger" in the distributor breaking down as it gets hot. I also had one that the bushings in the distributor were wearing: allowing the rotation to grind small shavings off of the advance mechanism. Grindings blowing around in distributor would get between points contacts and alter spark. Sometimes run great: other times horrible.

Coil just installed and matches the MSD 7A I have , the ignition inside the cap is from the company pretonic's or something like that but thats a good idea to check on that also for next year
