wheelstand handling

What is the best way to handle an abrupt and strong wheelstand: brakes
or throttle down or quit?
Thanks in advance, and thanks for the comments on the mofified heads.

Throttle down, and push on the brakes and
clutch. Then let off brakes slowly. But I
have let it the front hit plenty hard in
the heat of the battle!

With a hand clutch tractor I throttle down to an idle and pull the clutch just as it touches the ground..Well,at least thats the way it should work...My hand is usually near the throttle..

With a foot clutch tractor I use both the clutch and the throttle to try and let it down easy..I never have used the brakes...My foot is always close to the clutch..

I guess I kind of assumed your still moving forward. But if your talking about doing a wheelie and stopping, then throttle down and gently disengage the clutch. It'll come down easy unless you press the clutch in too fast.

I pull a hand clutch MM. I use a "dead man " throttle. I turn loose off the throttle and grab the clutch as fast as I can. Front usually touches ground as the clutch disengages.

Like Dblair said use wheelie bars. The top "expert" in our area, at a stoneboat pull where they weren't required, left his retracted. His tractor was suddenly very close to straight up, and the turnbuckles that held his hitch both up and down, were bent. He was pretty shook up abut it. It is pretty hard to push the clutch in sitting at that angle even with a back on your seat.

If you're doing it all the time you need to transfer some weight to the front, front end coming up means draw bar height is lowered which puts you at a big disadvantage.
