Hello all...i recently aquired an oliver 88 diesel pulling tractor....the brakes suck on it and i was wondering if anyone knew of a kit to replace the factory brakes withhydraulic disk brakes....i wouldnt mind making it a bit lighter too....also do any of the builders out there offer an adjustable timing gear for the 310 engines?....id like to build something more exotic for next year.....thanks all.....keep on pullin

an 88 up until mid yr '51 would have band brakes, after that were disk brakes. Which do you have? What wt classes how fast do you pull?
Could you be more specific on how/why they suck? Most of the time they just need a good thorough cleaning.
I pull olivers with both style brakes and when adjusted correctly they both work fine. The advantage with band brakes is they are less
weight, the disks a little better stopping power esp in reverse.
Does your 88 have a 310 diesel now?

Mine is a 1950 i believe.....no 310 in it yet....running a 10mph class....i was thinking the brakes would work better if i switched it over to hydraulic disk brakes...thanks for the help

I can see how you'd want good brakes if your going 10mph. I'm curious, your going 10mph 4500-6500# with a stock 4 main block 88 diesel? How many cubes and what fuel system does it take to go that fast and be competitive?
