Farmall SM gearing

I pull a Farmall SM in 5 mph classes. It has plenty of power in 1st gear, but it only runs about 3 mph. Running 2nd gear @ just under 4 mph , it runs out of power. I'm looking to get a little bit more momentum to compete against higher horsepower tractors without spending a lot to to do it. I run 14.9x38 Goodyear Suregrips mounted on 16 inch steel pressed rims.Would 2nd gear from a Farmall M be slower than the 2nd gear of the SM and about how much difference would there be?

Farmall M 2nd is 3mph SM 2nd is 3 3/4 mph. M 3rd is 4 1/4 mph. SM 3rd is 5 mph. This is out of the tractor data book. I myself would spend what I could on more horses. Lee
