road sharpen tires

im thinking about taking my tractor for a drive to sharpen the tires and was wondering what tire pressure would be better or make it sharpen quicker? would a low pressure let it squirm more thus sharpening the lugs quicker? or is a higher pressure better to keep the lugs more of a square leading edge?

thanks

Tie it off and spin them backwards on concrete. I have seen people use an electric hand planer to get the sharp front edge. Remember: road wear will not yield a "perfect" cut or angle. Happy trimming !!!

it is a farm stock tractor and rules say no cut tires, that's why I'm thinking take it for a ride would be most legal way to get a better edge on them. id rather attempt to win with out breaking the rules than break them to win, even though I'm pretty sure over half the tractors i pull against arn't really stock.

Low pressure and a 95 degree day! At least thats when I always noticed the bars on my field tractors melting off.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I bought a set exactly like you want yours to look. The guy told me the lengths he and another went to, to conceal them top cutting them. That is the reason I will stay away from bone stock classes. Sunday I watched tractors with good! Tires pull 75 ft. More. USAP rules starts with top cut tires. Fairer for everybody.

Whats happens is local pullers tires will be legal and out of town tires will be DQ. The only fair way is top cuts , I got tired of all the cheating in no cut tire pulls.

Vic : that is one of the reasons USAP went with top cut. Seeing numerous tires that were claimed to be road wear but were too "perfect " to believe. Had no grind marks left so it was hard to prove. I agree. Top cut helps keep it even.

Top cuts are the only fair way to give every body the same chance. I was against them when they started it because I had a very good set of uncut tires but looking back I think this is the fairest way to make every body equal.

Weight up the tractor. Find a steep paved hill and pull your truck up it a few times. Look at the bars. If you dont see fresh rubber all the way across the lug then let out 2lbs of air and repeat. Id start about 9lbs.
