Wondering if any other antique pulling clubs have considered allowing radial tires due to the fact that some bias tire sizes are getting hard to find.

Not around here in Southern Il but I don't know why because I think they are not as good as a good hard set of bias tires.

I think the original thought was that radials were taller than bias and yield additional ground speed. so many places use a speed limit now; tire diameter does not matter. only advantage may be more ground contact; but; lug placement will have a lot to do with whether that is an advantage or not.

LCB is a pretty good tractor puller. I am betting on him being right. But I have a good set of radials anyway. The thinking is you lose drawbar height, unless you carry a lot of air. Which shortens your foot print to same as a bias ply.

Agreed, there is no real advantage to radials in pulling. Tread pattern makes a much bigger difference. The best field tire is not what will win on the track.

Was just wondering if other clubs allowed them can find good useable radials for about half the cost of bias ply some members were thinking it may be time for a rule change

So tell me why they are not allowed at most any antique pull but at farm pulls everyone runs them. They must help. A tire that can get ahold of dirt is going to pull whether in a field or on a track, the flat long ground contact area helps in some tracks. BTW I've been doing this for 30 years and have won a time or two.

I pull with a club and they don't allow radial tires in any class . I am just taking a stab at this but I think its because we pull no tractors newer than 1958 and back then there were no radial tires available for these tractors.
