hard blocking 88

Thoughts on hard blocking 88 due to water in oil because of 4.375 bore and possible crack. Already partial hard blocked in attempt to seal leak. If complete hardblock with copper head gasket with no water in bloc Can i keep it cool with electric fan and pump?

There are folks that are running dry
block engines in pulling tractors.
Only running water through head. A
lot depends on how long you expect to
have it running at a time. Extended
run time will be a problem. Short
times not so much. Electric water pump
so you can cool coolant without engine
running helps also.

I would be careful depending on what the piston to wall clearance is. Plus the hard block is going to reduce the clearance even more once cured. These steps need done before final finishing to be accurate.

560-puller is correct,a full dry block needs more piston clearance.Mine has leaked for ten yrs, bearings look really good with anti freeze in oil.LOL

put an oversize radiator in it and the same oil in the radiator as the crankcase and a drain cock on the crankcase. it
will run a long time .

I am hard block to the top. I only cool the head. Electric fan and pump. Usually
have to leave off a bit or lm forever getting to 140 , then it cools just fine. Call me
if u want more info. Curt
