Can I pull?

I have a 48 foot shipping container sitting on 6X6 beams. It weights 12,000 pounds. My biggest tractor is a 350 IH with two sets of wheel weights and loaded tires, but the AT is out. Will my tractor pull this? I want to move it 100 feet straight move forward across sod. The container has openings at each bottom corner to hook to nice and low and I would be sliding it on the beams as I went, not the ground. The container also has two rails under it which it is sitting on and what it would be sliding on. All of this brings up weight class question to me. When you say your in a weight class of 10,000 pounds is that the tractors weight? if that is the tractors weight how much can you pull? A 10,000 pound tractor pulls 10,000 pounds? Is their a ratio?

all depends on chain length, dirt type and moisture, front weight and strength of hitch, many stock type hitches are not built for a lot of down force, pulling a straight drawbar implement yes,but hooking low can be problematic.

As far as the 350 pulling a container that big it seems like it would take a miracle. Not being a Farmall man I may be completely out of school to
even comment. When it comes to tractor pulling I do know a tiny bit. Whatever a tractor weighs, that is the weight class
it can legally enter. I.e. 3500# tractor will pull in that class regardless if it is a stock ,hot farm, modified open, etc. The heavier the tractor gets
the farther it will pull simply because of the extra weight. Hence the same tractor can start light and enter as many classes as he has weights or
the sanctioning body allows. Obviously the heavier the classes get, the heavier the sled will become. As far as tractor to sled weight ratios go,
dunno. Hope this helps on the tractor pulling part.

I would say in a perfect world it should move it however u will have to short chain it to get down pressure on ur hitch , and more than likely the container is stuck to the ground so gething it to start moving is going to be the problem

JL Ray You would most likely have a butt load if you would be trying to drag this with a IH 1066 but your 350 will pull it just fine (IF) you get some pipe 6 or 8" 12'
LONG OR SOME NICE USED TELEPHONE POLES.That container should roll with little effort. Even though this 2016 sometime you have to back up to the old times when the old timers
had to drag these old buildings with a mule. Good luck
Call me if you have time as I have 2 stories to tell about the same thing. 314-313-9948

I moved one with a gas JD 4010 no fluid no weights. I hooked it high and got the front end light. Worked ok.

If you ground is solid use the telephone poles like mister Beckman said. If you can jack it up and lay several poles under it to get it started.

Traction on sod is very poor, so I am of the opinion of those that say you need to put it on rollers. When I helped move a building once, we jacked it up and put down planks under the sills with pipe in between. It rolled very easily, we had to just keep, bringing up the planks and pipes.

Thank you for your post, this is more like what I was looking for rather than, I think so or or no way. I'm glade guys weight in but hard faxes speak the truth.
First off I didn't think my 350 weighted that much. Second I thought it would pull more than that.
So: from this info. I guess I should go get the neighbors power hoe. It's pretty big and he said he would help me if needed. It will Probable cost my wife making some bigger dinner, but he's single and she has an aunt that's looking for company. The wife has been asking about the neighbor for two years now. Funny.

first i see that 817jdg said he moved one with a 4010 and that he hooked it high on the tractor !!!!!!! NEVER HOOK HIGHER THEN THE DRAW BAR OR ABOVE THE CENTER OF THE REAR AXLE !!!!!if you 350 has a two point hitch be very careful that you do not have it to high that you could or can flip over backwards

If you had some round post you could get under it there would be no problem as long as you are careful but your neighbor has an outfit that sounds like it would work a lot better and maybe the aunt would like to help with the dinner.LOL
