hot foot pulling sled question

Who do I call to find out what the rules are for the antique classes the hot foot sled has during the summer? Do the pulls have divisions like natpa or is just antique and open?

Actually he his planning on being in Waterloo for that pull next weekend if you want to talk to him in person. I hate to give out his number without first talking to him. He'll also be in Sigourney, IA and Lincoln, NE for that pull. Basically it's stock 1 which is as farm tractor as it comes in appearance. No aftermarket weights and maybe only 18" hitch, 3.5 mph speed limit. Stock 2 is not heavily modified, aftermarket weights, 20" hitch, 3.5 mph speed limi, no cut tires and 16.9 tires after 6500 I believe. Stock 3 is more modified tractors, 20" hitch, 3.5 mph speed, 18.4 tires. Open is run what you got as fast as you can. But best would be to get with him and go over the rules. Different places have slightly different rules for that event also.

Stock 3 class what is rpm limit? 10%,20%? Do I need to have the rpm hook up as per NATPA rules use? Is there aNY rule on crankshaft limitation (as the oem crank must fit in block used) or any rule on cylinder heads?

20 percent over on rpm's, no rpm hook up needed/rpm's checked with a photo tach if needed, not sure what you want to know on cranks but the heads have to be original equipment or a manufactured replacement ,ie-Murphy's, the 450 IH lp head, ect. In talking to Mark it sounds like the 100# allowance may go away which is fine with me. Too many people wasting time on the scales getting their tractor to weigh 4599,5599 ect. It was intended as an incentive to put on tip bars and was supposed to be given only to those that had ones that would pass tech, something that half of them wouldn't anyway.

We tried an 18" hitch on the Hotfoot circuit. The honest people ran 18 and the cheaters ran 20. It was supposed to help the lower power tractors but they complained the most. So it went back to 20 and the 30 hp tractors get to pull with the 70hp ones without the handicap. It takes a minimum of 70 to pull Marks sled in the 4500 if you have hopes of competing.

Crankshaft rule,,, I'm referring to on the oliver tractors and the 7 main blocks. Can I run a later model 7 main block in the stock 3 class? Or do I need to stay with the original 4 main block? Just need to know what I can do so I build within the rules and don't build something that I cant pull "locally" if u get my point.

The 7 main/12 port engines are not allowed in the 3.5 no cut class but have been allowed above that, which would be the open gear class, there is a class that allows turbo diesels ect. but is not run at all pulls

Forgot to mention that 310's should be able to pull in the 3.5mph cut tire class also Build a big one and show em what an Oliver can do.

What class has the most tractors in it? Don't want to show up and have 1 or 2 tractors to pull against. How much hp do u think is needed in the stock 3 class to be competitive? I haven't been around antique pulling for many years and was curious how things have progressed the last 5 10 years.

The uncut 3.5 has good numbers, several are running the open gear class instead of the cut tire 3.5 mph speed limit class, at least 100hp would be nice for the 3.5mph 4500-5500, I pulled in it competitively with less and got by on most tracks but on a good sticky one 5500 was a handful forcing me down a gear, saying that there are some tractors that will be forced out of the open gear class and back into the speed limit class as tougher tractors get built, I am working on one now that I hope will be part of that trend. The cut/3.5 isn't a bad class it just isn't offered at all pulls and numbers are usually adequate to make a class but isn't predictable

front weights go by the eleven foot rule, drawbar is 18"min. length and 20 inches high, tip bars should be made to NATPA specs. lowest point can not be higher than 10 inches, must extend beyond the tire radius (you would be surprised how many don't) and the pads must be at least 25 square inches (5x5),I have a pretty user friendly hitch and tip bar set-up on my 88 that you can copy if you want, I will probably take it to the Norfolk, Ne pull.

I always for get about the pull in norfolk, never been to that one and Im originally from that area. We use to hit Sigourney Iowa every year and kearney back when they had their pull many years ago.
You pull an 88 oliver? Good choice :)

I wanted to build one 25 years ago and finally got to it. I had a lot of fun pulling it last summer and evidently did ok according to all of the crying that was directed to the sled owner (Mark). Right now it's just a 283 but I want to bore and stroke it to a 377. We always had Olivers on the farm and I like to pull what I grew up on.

4000 to 5500 class 1, 3.5mph non-cuts, it will run 3rd on an average track, but it's easy to get speeding tickets! It only has around 65hp.
