I'm doing an Farmall M/GMC 305 V6 conversion.Trying to figure out how to connect the engine to the trans. Need to use the M flywheel/clutch/starter. I think I will need some kind of adapter plate and spacer. The rest will be pretty easy. The engine fits perfect in the frame,so no frame mods are needed. I see where all kinds of engines are put in Ms(350Chev;big blocks;392IH;7.3Ldiesel;detroits;Cummins.........So why not a V6 'jimmy'? Any advise will be muchly appreciated. Thanks! Steve

Delta are you going to use it around farm or are you going to pull it ? If your going to pull it put a steel flywheel and clutch that will take the RPM of the V6 just to be on the safe side.

560 IH with a 478 GMC V-6 magnum truck motor. Was build in the late 60's.
Far as I can tell from the stories, it has a custom homemade flywheel in it. It only turns 2800rpm.

Delta red I had 1 of those in a 1 ton flat bed. Get her in high gear and you never had to down shift. great little powerhouse and decent on gas. I cant help you with the conversion, but hope you will post a picture when you get her done.

Deltared,
Here's how to do it. Take the old MD engine out with the flywheel and engine back plate still in place Make stands to bolt the flywheel to the engine back plate. Take the flywheel and backplate off the old engine. lay the backplate on the replacement block with the fywheel attached. This will give you the measurements you need to make an adapter from the new crank to the MD flywheel. once you have the adapter in place you can redrill the backplate to bolt on the new block. By doing it this way you can use all the stock starter and driveline parts. Belt drive governor and youre all set

Most likely this will be a multi year project. But,rest assured, there WILL be pics when completed.

Years back I saw video of an M pulling with a 350 Chevy with M flywheel and fly wheel and it came a part. They were lucky nobody got hit by flying parts.

I don't know what rpm you're thinking a jimmy v6 will be turning but there is no point in turning more than about 3000. The hp and torque falls off dramatically after that. Most people that don't like them are guys trying to use the rpm range higher than they were designed for. Between 2 & 3000 is those things max useful range. Will the gm flywheel not fit in the m clutch housing? I would think it would be easier to get a dished flywheel for the jimmy. Shouldn't be uncommon for the bigger truck applications.
