Bryan posted the flyer on Facebook the other day. Here it is. Thanks for keeping us informed so well Bryan.

"no re-powered tractors" ought to answer the question on RD's rpm's have always been a percentage over hi idlespecs , I'd like to see the classic age limit upped to 58 or 59 to let some other tractors in, watching 75 M's and G's pull gets pretty monotonous

Guess I will never understand why its called an open class then. Must be a backward open class since the two light classes are limited to 38hp.
Never heard of an open class with limited horse power.

open class is not limited hp,just the two lightest classes are protected from larger tractors on a diet from coming down that low,it is in many clubs rules that way.

Why not run the two light classes as antique? All I really want to know about is the question about the RD motors.
Just a little definition on the "No repowered tractors". What do they consider repowered. I would like to know for the heavier open classes. If someone has called and asked already please share.
Thanks you

Jon are you and Scott doing the rules or is Scott going to do more of that? Might not get down there with the CC this year as I might take the 88 to Waterloo since it is closer and it's hard to get away in March when cows are close up. I sure would like to be able to pull my 800 case in the classic when I get it built if the age limit get's bumped up.

I have retired. Scott has assumed all rules and pull technical details. It is a great fit for the EXPO and should ensure continued success for years to come.

I always enjoy the pull at Sigourney. The people of the expo have always been extremely nice to us and you have been very good to work with Jon. I always thought Bill was a very fair scale man also.

Easiest way to get answers is call/text/email me. Repowers are anything that needs alterations made to fit in the tractor, and/or are a different length than the stock block.

I would consider anything but a WK40 with an RD to be re-powered. Never saw a 460 with an RD from the factory. Anything would beat the gutless 221 they came with.

I'm pretty sure no tractor ever came with an RD motor, but it gets argued about a lot. The w40 had a truck engine in it, but it wasn't an RD.

The RD series replaced the FA series, but they were all part of the same engine family made from the 30s to the 70s.

Agreed that the only IH tractor that that series came in was the W40.

I don't disagree with either of you. You have valid points. It's just that the RD motor offers a far better alternative for open classes when the rpm is limited. The 301 IH motor needs the extra rpm to help. The RD motor offers a little more cost effective option.
Thanks for offering up your ideas and clarifying the spring expo mindset.

Agreed. With Sigourney being a once a year deal and not historically tied to any pulling organization, they have always tried to set the rules to the sweet spot of what will draw the best numbers. It is a fund raiser for the EXPO, a 4H and FFA fair and community minded event center.

At some point these national organizations will have to realize the the 70s era tractors are antiques and will extend the years to cover them. It would solve a lot of these "Div 5", open class, 12 MPH, etc. issues. If they allow diesel to gas conversion, every brand could run their make's big block engine and a lot of these issues for brand specific stuff would go away. Just my opinion and nothing to do with Sigourney.
