450 or 460 puller

If both tractors are stock block the 450 is 281 cubic inches and about 56 hp. The 460 is 221cubic inches and 45 HP. The 450 will out lug the 460.In our area if you go to a bigger block you have to go a modified class.

Dropping the 301 in will make it enhanced or modified. You can do a lot to the 450 and still be considered "stock". You mentioned "stock" pulling and with that said, I say 450. If I were building an enhanced/modified puller, then 460.

The 301 may fit the 460 but was never offered for a replacement for a 460 and he said he was pulling farm stock.

well, heck most have turbine type replacements,--stock,-- what is that. LOL I have the right blocks in all my tractors, when I win no one believes it. Just saying.

OK. Then put the 301 crank and pistons in the 220 block. Actually takes about 375 cu. Cam and manifold + big carb to pull mod. And some in your class will be 700cu.A 450 might pull plow classes. But otherwise to heavy.

I pull in a farmers and local classes which are not distance but percentage pulls. I don't strip mine down because I take it to pulls and shows. I pull a 450 that's stock and weighs 7,000lbs. with 2 rear weights on each side with no fluid in tires. I have found that it pulls better loaded to 8,000 lbs. I pull in 2 classes one is 0-10,000lbs. and other is 7,500-10,000. and tractor does very well in these classes.

I have found the same thing people can't believe its stock. I have found that you want to keep the nose of tractor so tires are just barely touching ground when pulling. Most of the guys I pull against have tractor front end air bourn half down track.

I'll take it back. Every tractor has its place. I pull a 435 john Deere. They should never win. And I hardly ever do. Also have never % pulled. So know nothing about it. But I can see the 6 cylinder Internationals taking over from the 4 cyl. And the Olivers.
.

now --- now --- now boyz, just look at results from around the country before you put any Olivers down.Happy Holidays to you any way !!!!!!!!!

I don't know a bout rules where you are but around here the only place that wont let you pull that 301 is NATPA in stock class.

Well the 450 motor is been rebuilt but now full or water, 460 rearend or something in rearend is broke and motor knockin'. but the 400 is original, STOCK motor, and crappy gas. So does a 400 make a descent puller?

We have several that pull around here but they have the 281 kit for a 450 in them. They seem to do alright. I don't know if you can still get it but at one time they made a fire crater oversize kit for the 450 and it would also fit the 264 of the super M and 400.
