I pull a 1952 JD60 in farm stock classes 8500-11000. I have participated in about a dozen pulls now, and while the motor is as I bought it(stock?) except for electronic ignition, I bought some used 15.5 x38 tires from a friend in our club to try and put the power down better. I have always pulled in 1st gear, and was wearing 12.4 tires beforehand. Since the tire change, I am going further, but still always run out of traction before motor. I'm thinking of trading up to 16.9 tires w/23 degree bars, and wondering if I would need to put them on 14" or 16" rims. My current 15.5s are on 12" rims, pulled at 8 to 10 psi, and they're loaded. I don't have very deep pockets, and just want to spend what I have wisely. Thanks for you thoughts in advance.

16.9 on 16 inch rim is perfect, good luck, enjoy.Learn to finesse and win with little money spent, get to know your tractor, bond with it,become one with it,learn to "read" the dirt, track and watch other before you.Passion for pulling will make you a winner.Happy Holidays

Thanks. I garnered a 1st in our last pull of the season, I think because I saw something in the track that the 720s I was pulling against overlooked. It's nice when the old faded paint can beat the shiny ones now and again.

My 450 has 15.5s with 14 inch wheels and I run 10 lbs. pressure and pull in 0-10,000lb. farm stock. The tractor weighs 8,000lbs.as she sets and no fluid in tires.

That's a nice 450. I pull against one in our club and he usually beats me. Are those Firestone F&R's your wearing? Mine are Goodyears w/45% bars and pretty worn.

The tractor actually has miss matched tires on it . The side you can see is a Titan and the other has no name on it . I bought the tires from the gentlemen that I bought the tractor from and both tires were new never put on a tractor. Here is a picture of tire on right side of tractor and as you can see it didn't look as it does now. This tractor pulls great even with miss matched tires and I run 10lbs. tire pressure but have thought of trying 8 lbs. .

I like what you are doing..!!

Nothing like an "A", "B" or 60 pulling in 1st and going the Distance..!! It CAN and does happen..!

But then, I am a fan of old-time "Brung what ya farm with Pulls"...!!

Have FUN..that's what it's all about..!! (and stay OUT of 2nd gear..!!!!)..
