Boring a IH 400 block

Has anyone left the sleeves out and had the block bored for bigger pistons? If so is there anything else you've got to have done to the block and how big can you go and not have heat issues?

friends don't have any issues at 4.310 and have others that 4.375 is too much . it's a toss up 4.25 is easy .
