Tire hook up

Let me set this up:
Track: closer to the soft side
Tractor: set up for 4500lb, new 13.9x38 on 12" rims with 10psi. At end of pull, tractor is diggin' in with front starting to float off the ground.
First off, I'm guessing that when it starts digging in, the dirt in front of the rear tires starts acting like a berm so the tire cannot roll over it,so it continues going down. I checked the dirt in wheel rut, looks like it is a little high in the middle
Next tractor: same weight class, but older tires of the same size, half worn. It pulls farther than mine.
Neither tractor has cut tires.
Questions:
Can I do anything with my current set up to gain extra ground?
I would think that while the older tires are stiffer than new ones, wouldn't they do the same & spin out sooner than mine?
Are the new tires hurting me that much?
Thanks in advance!

I have seen this scenario time and time again. New tires with tall lugs will NOT pull with shorter lug tires on a packed track; or even unpacked for that matter. If you are pulling in a plowed field you need more lug. Not on a pulling track with any degree of preparation. Other that ditching your new tires and buying some near worn out; You can try running less air. Yes they will cup up in the middle; but; they will not dig as deep of a hole for you to have to overcome. I am currently running 6 1/2# of air in 18.4x38 in 5000-5500# classes. Many other guys I talk with seem to be in the sane area. Just experiment!!!

On a massey 44 I used to pull I bought brand new 15.5 38 tires. I got a nice top cut job and got them baked to harden them and there weren't many tire set ups that would beat it. It was a mild top cut too. Was not super obvious.

I pull 15.5x38s that are new and pull as good as short lug on hard or soft track. I pull in classes 0-10,000 lbs. and 7,500 - 10,000 lbs. and my tractor weighs in at 8,000 lbs. and run 10 - 12 lbs. tire pressure.

Drawbar Height is EVERYTHING..as your tires "Dig Down", you are loosing Drawbar Height and you are dragging MORE dirt in front of the sled...

Tires with less tread (to varying degrees) can still "Hook Up" and even spin more and still not "Dig a Hole"..

Maybe you could use a little more pressure ( you said the hole had a High Center)..

Ron..

I agree that half worn out tires are better. But, every once in a while somebody will show up with a brand new set of tires and out pull everyone. Every track is different, there isn't really a "perfect" set of tires.
