454 in an M

Looking for info on putting a 454 in an m, I am planning on pulling it am looking for info about engine mounting plate and if anybody has a template or makes them. And also the coupler to connect the tranny. Thanks for the help.

I can tell you how I did it. Remove original engine leaving the engine plate attached. Clamp a correct Chevy bellhousing to the engine plate. Attach a dial indicator to the tail end of the original engine crankshaft so you can sweep the inside of the circular transmission opening in the Chevy bellhousing. Tap the Chevy bellhousing around until it is level horizontally and centered according to the dial indicator readout. The dial indicator needle should not move as you rotate the crankshaft if it is centered. I should have taken some pictures when I did it. I grabbed this image from a page about bellhousing alignment which shows how to set up the indicator.

Use a transfer punch to mark where to drill or carefully drill through the bellhousing bolt holes once aligned.

You then need to carefully measure and make a longer input shaft for the transmission. This is just the beginning.
