massey 44 standard

Looking into pulling a massey 44 standard in div 2 3mph class. Tractor has 14.9x 30 rears with cast centers and 6.50-16 fronts pressed steel. Will remove pto and belt pully drive. What can a standard front axle 44 get down to? Still need to build weight brackets wheelie bars and hitch. The club I will be pulling with allows the 44 to start at 5000lbs. Is this obtainable with the cast centers on rear? Also it is a bone stock fresh rebuilt motor in it, will this do ok in 5000, and 5500 lb class 3 mph? Or should I just stop looking at this route and find a different way to go to get back into pulling?

Somebody must not like 44s if you can only start at 5000. May not be much less with cast rears, but they usually pull 4500 or less.

Yea they group them with oliver 88 farmall m jd g and like size tractors. Not below 5000 in div 2. Will the stock spec fresh built motor handle 5000 and 5500 good in a 3 mph class or should I explore other options and leave this one alone?

I have a Massey 44 RC with 4.063" M&W Pistons and a Goldsburg cam and I cannot pull on a lot of tracks in second gear because the 44 goes fairly fast in second gear. Then on top of that a 44 goes quite slow in first gear. Maybe with shorter tires you might find a sweet spot that she can compete. If I was building a Massey into a second gear 3 mph puller I would start with a 33 row crop chassis and put a 44 engine in it. The 33 has a slower second gear. If you wanted to get creative you could stuff a 44 engine into a 30. Same gears as a 33.

None of that engine swap stuff would fly in my club. Are you saying 2nd is too fast and you run out of power or is just too fast for the pace pulls? I just want to make sure a stock engine will be stout enough up in 5500 before I spend time and money in weight brackets and wheelie bars and a hitch. This motor was rebuilt to to stock spec a few years ago and hardly ran since. Might be slightly over bore and maybe bumped compression a little if I remember right. But being the motor is fresh with a lot of money dumped into a restore I know I won't be opening it up for any big power mods. If this won't be enough power to have fun and figure out balance then I'll keep looking for other options. Thank you for any help
